    Description

1919 World Series Game Used Baseball. Despite losses in Games One and Four, Eddie Cicotte retained the trust of White Sox manager Kid Gleason, who sent the guilty knuckleballer to the mound for his third Series start in Game Seven. With the Black Sox conspirators beginning to suspect their payoffs from crooked gamblers might never come, Cicotte surrendered a single run in nine full innings, pulling Chicago to within a game of evening the Series. Presented is an ONL (Heydler) ball utilized during this Redland Field contest, exhibiting fine use and vintage handwritten notations detailing the specifics. Below a box score recounting the tally of runs, hits and errors, the original owner penned, "World's Series, Cincinnati, Ohio, Oct. 8, 1919." This would prove to be the last game the White Sox would win in 1919, as an underworld visit to Lefty Williams this evening threatening violence to the southpaw's wife should the Reds fail to win Game Eight proved effective in ending the Series. Ink has faded slightly but remains easily and completely legible. Only the second 1919 World Series game used baseball we've ever encountered.
