    Description

1917-19 Detroit Tigers Team Signed Baseball with Ty Cobb. Rare Dead Ball Era team ball adds one notch to the small tally of pre-1920 examples to surface at auction, and features what is arguably the definitive figure from that period when speed and stealth was the name of the game. The illustrious Georgia Peach snuggles up to the circular "Reach" stamping on this OAL (Johnson) ball, his 2/10 black fountain pen ink trapped like a fly in amber beneath an ancient coating of shellac. Other visible signatures appear from Harry Heilmann, Boland, Bush, Cunningham, Dauss and Yelle (whose three-season term of service allows us to date the ball). Others can be detected, but are too light to discern. Despite the eye strain it inspires, this is a rarity that still carries no shortage of collecting appeal, a rare playing-days team ball from the heart of Ty Cobb's historic career. Pre-Certified by PSA/DNA.
