Description

1917-18 Christy Mathewson & John McGraw Dual-Signed Baseball. The "Cork Center" text and very faint John Tener stamping on the provided Official National League baseball narrows the production range to a two-year span beginning the season after Matty posted his 373rd and final career victory. Though that final win came in the uniform of the Cincinnati Reds, and despite the fact that he would serve with the front office of the Boston Braves until the end of his tragically short life in 1925, he'll always be remembered as a New York Giants legend, a fact this relic drives home.

After nearly a century, the autographs have lost some of their original boldness, but each legend is quite readily legible, iconcic pitcher Mathewson at 4/10 and his fellow Hall of Famer, manager McGraw, at 1.5/10. Each signature is applied to a separate panel of the ancient sphere, allowing for convincing display as a single. The experts at PSA/DNA note additional handwriting on the ball that has faded beyond legibility and is visible today only with the assistance of a spectrometer. The ball is accompanied by a letter of provenance from the family of the original owner, a young baseball fan who grew up in the shadow of Yankee Stadium (and, thus, within striking distance of the Giants' Polo Grounds home). Letter of provenance from family of original owner. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
