1915 Eddie Collins Single Signed Baseball to Hall of Fame Umpire Tommy Connolly. Despite a full quarter century in a Major League uniform and the brand of baseball brilliance which would typically attract swarms of autograph seekers, Collins remains an enormously challenging hurdle for collectors of Hall of Fame single signed baseballs. It's a bit of a mystery, actually, that so few could exist. Our comprehensive auction results database indicates this to be just the fourth offered by any major house in the past twenty years. So there's no question the collecting world is anxiously awaiting another crack at ownership, which we present with this truly remarkable example thereof.

Beyond the appeal of the stunningly bold 9/10 black fountain pen ink, or the rare, early format OAL (Johnson) baseball upon which it resides, Collins' signature is elevated by an attribution to Hall of Fame umpire Tommy Connolly who, along with Bill Klem, became one of the first men in black to enter that esteemed Cooperstown brotherhood. The text reads, "For the best umpire in the American League, 'Tommy' Connolly from 'Eddie' Collins, 9/12/15."

It should go without saying that signed baseballs from the Dead Ball Era are extraordinarily rare, with the small surviving population typically worn to the edge of legibility. This high-grade example linking two of the most important figures of the nascent American League is a bona fide miracle of our national pastime, one of the most unlikely and exciting components of a collection abounding with rare treasures. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
