Description

Connie Mack's first great dynasty begins!

1910 Philadelphia Athletics Team Signed Baseball. It's the earliest known World Championship team ball in the hobby, a relic that brings roaring back to life a dynasty that is arguably the most significant of the sport's gritty Dead Ball Era. Between 1910 and 1915, this first Connie Mack masterpiece claimed four American League and three World Championships, utilizing a roster densely packed with men who would find immortality in Cooperstown bronze. Those five future Hall of Famers are counted among the twenty autographs applied to this ancient horsehide on "Nov. 23, 1910," as a small notation on the surface designates.

These honored figures: Connie Mack (1.5/10), Eddie Collins (2.5/10), Frank "Home Run" Baker (6/10), Chief Bender (1.5/10) and the exceedingly rare Eddie Plank (5/10), whose 1926 passing at age fifty establishes his among the toughest twentieth century Major League Hall of Famers. Other notables include $100,000 Infield member Jack Barry (6/10), Jack Lapp (7/10, just last name), Paddy Livingston (8/10), Ira Thomas (7/10), Jack Coombs (6/10), Harry Davis (6/10), Cy Morgan (4/10), Bris Lord (7/10) and Amos Strunk (8/10).

Several other signatures teeter on the brink of illegibility, but a full roster of Cooperstown honorees and the bulk of the balance of significant names leaves little cause for complaint. The term "Holy Grail" has been weakened through overuse in the cataloging of sports collectibles, but we would like to reclaim it here, and to utilize it in its proper application.
