Jeter makes history, breaks ankle in ALCS Game One

2012 Derek Jeter 200th Postseason Hit Game Used Home Plate. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Though the lofty milestone achievement of 200 postseason hits should have been the primary Derek Jeter story to emerge from the Yankees' Game One meeting with the Detroit Tigers in the American League Championship Series, the newspapers instead led with an image of the Captain lying prone in the infield dirt, victim of a fractured left ankle on a routine ground ball in the top of the twelfth inning. A strange dichotomy to be sure, but more than enough to call the October 13, 2012 contest one of the most consequential in the long and distinguished career of Derek Jeter.

Presented is the home plate that shared the infield with Jeter that day, a weighty relic that trumpets the strength of its provenance in the form of both serialized authentication stickering from Major League Baseball and a notation from Jeter himself, who adds "200th P.S. Hit" to his 9/10 black sharpie autograph on the dirt-stained surface.

Please note, should you visit the MLB website to check the certification number, that the start of the home plate's date range of "October 03, 2012" is listed as "Session Date," with "Additional Information" reporting "Field Plate From 10-3-12." The included Steiner letter of authenticity clarifies the issue, confirming the October 3 start date but adding the October 14th end date, coinciding with Game Two of the ALCS and the last contest of the season at Yankee Stadium, as the Tigers would complete their four-game sweep in Detroit.

Other postseason records set by Jeter during period this plate was used: singles, games, at bats, plate appearances, total bases, strike outs, doubles, runs scored.
