The engine of the Big Red Machine!

1975 Johnny Bench World Series Game Worn & Signed Cincinnati Reds Jersey, MEARS A10--Photo Matched to Game One! It's more than just a catchy nickname that has assured a special degree of immortality for the Cincinnati Reds teams that won back-to-back World Championships in the mid-1970's. The Big Red Machine represented a staggering assembly of elite talent virtually unprecedented in the history of Major League Baseball, with sixty-five All-Star appearances among the everyday starters. Three of those men share Hall of Fame immortality with their legendary manager. Another is Cooperstown's most notable absence.

But the name of the thousand-horsepower engine powering that unstoppable juggernaut can be found on the back of this road grey knit, worn by a man widely regarded as the greatest player ever to don the mask and vest. Despite the enormous physical toll of the position, the skull-rattling foul tips, the jammed fingers, the swelter of the protective gear, Bench outproduced even the Hit King in 1975, driving in 110 runs and launching twenty-eight home runs to lead the Reds. Behind the plate, his rocket arm kept all but the most daring base thieves tethered to their bags.

The heavy game wear apparent upon the offered garment suggests a full season of use, and detailed paperwork from RGU Photo Match Authentication finds the 1989 Hall of Fame inductee donning this jersey in the opening game of the 1975 World Series at Fenway. A masterful performance from Red Sox ace Luis Tiant would stifle the Reds in a shutout loss to ratchet up the tension that would later explode with Carlton Fisk's Series-tying walk-off blast in Game Six, and a nail-biter of a Game Seven victory to secure the third World Championship in Reds franchise history.

"Cincinnati 5" booms from the chest in bold red tackle twill, giving way to "Bench 5" on verso. It is the name on back that supplies the data points in RGU's photo match to Game One action--visit our online listing for the best look at the evidence. Interior rear left tail holds the proper "Wilson [size] 44" label. Chest is autographed in 10/10 blue sharpie with a "The Big Red Machine" notation. We should note that the absence of any year marking in the jersey led the experts at MEARS to assign a vintage of "1974-75," with the photo match suggesting that most if not all of the wear dates to the latter. LOA from MEARS, A10. LOA from RGU Photo Match Authentication. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.

Just wanted to let you know how pleased I am regarding the sale of my hockey jersey. You were great to work with, you answered all my phone calls and e-mails in a prompt manner, and you did a great job marketing the jersey.
