1964 Pete Rose Game Worn & Signed Cincinnati Reds Jersey--Photo Matched! "Somebody's gotta win and somebody's gotta lose," Rose once told reporters. "I believe in letting the other guy lose." Like the man whose seemingly untouchable record he bested in 1985, Pete Rose was a man whose single-minded determination made him one of the most successful players in the history of the sport, and one of the most feared. The pendulum of public opinion appears to be on a slow swing toward forgiveness, but like another Dead Ball Era legend, "Shoeless Joe" Jackson, it is apparent that Rose's excommunication from our National Pastime has done little to dampen the desirability within the collecting market.

Certainly his autograph is now almost literally a dime a dozen, the result of years spent cranking out the product in his Las Vegas residency, but game used material remains high on many collectors' wish lists, and particularly those rare few uniform pieces predating the Majors' transition to knit construction. Here we present one of the finest known representations from the flannel age, a glorious pinstriped vest worn as reigning National League Rookie of the Year.

Rose's sophomore season saw its shares of ups and downs, but Charlie hustled down to the Venezuelan Winter League after the season's conclusion to work on his game, returning in 1965 to record his first of seven seasons as the National League's most prolific hitter (209).

The garment presents the original number "14" on front and verso, though the experts report that the front logo and name on back are restored. We also have confirmation that all buttons and the black piping at the arm holes are original, as are the "MacGregor Size 44" label and interior collar and dual-tagging at interior lower button path denoting washing instructions and "MacGregor Set 2 1964."

Strong game wear is the obvious expectation for the hardest working man in baseball business, and a bold black sharpie signature adds appeal at right chest. Included is the original identification card from the Pete Rose display at the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame, where the garment was publicly showcased for a number of years. We also include a photograph of Rose wearing this jersey, the most ironclad provenance that could exist. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from SGC Authentic.
