1953 Ted Williams Signed Home Run #7 Baseball--Career #331, MEARS Authentic. Historic sphere dates from the first month of Teddy Ballgame's return to Major League duty after seventeen months of service to Uncle Sam in Korea. Any concerns that the returning hero would need time to shake off the rust were quickly dismissed as Williams crested the .420 mark by Labor Day, smashing seven long balls before the calendar flipped to September.

Here we present the last of that August salvo, a three-run blast in the top of the seventh at Cleveland Stadium that would prove to be the game-winner in a six-to-four final. Indians ace Mike Garcia would take the loss for serving up this OAL (Harridge) orb, which was delivered into the outfield stands and the hands of a fan named "Bishie Bell." It is to that person that Williams inscribed the ball, presumably just after the final out was recorded. An unknown hand, almost certainly that of the fan, records the significance in vintage ink: "7th Home Run, 8/31/53." Williams inscription and signature rates 6/10.

This 331rd home run pulled Williams even with the great Hank Greenberg, who had concluded his own Hall of Fame career six years earlier. Williams would add 190 more to his own tally before leaving the game with his dream of being recognized as "the greatest hitter that ever lived" fully realized.

This baseball derives from the only known complete collection of 500 Home Run Club home run baseballs, one of several on offer within this Platinum Night event. LOA from MEARS, Authentic. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
