    Description

1952 New York Yankees World Championship Presentational Wristwatch. This rare Championship prize for the four-peating Yankees is most typically seen in pocket watch format--an example sold in our May 2012 Signature Auction for $5,676--but this one has been transformed by a skilled jeweler into a wristwatch. The "Wittnauer" brand timepiece features an understated art deco face, but the back of the watch provides the true appeal. "New York Yankees 1952" joins a bat and hat logo at center, while perimeter is engraved, "World Champions ECS." The identity of the owner whose monogram appears has been lost to history. A quick wind sets the ticking in motion, but we aren't certain how well the watch keeps time. Certainly an inexpensive servicing could have it operating perfectly if it isn't already. Fine condition with only minor handling wear.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
