    Description

1932 Wilcy Moore Game Worn Jersey. Stunningly preserved home white flannel gamer was once the possession of right hander Wilcy Moore, who went nineteen and seven as a rookie for the 1927 Yankees before being traded to the Red Sox in 1931. Midway through the next season, when Moore suited up in this pristine relic, he was traded back to the Yanks, just in time for yet another World Championship. How's that for getting the best of the famous rivalry?

Moore pitched eighty-four innings for the Sox before that 1932 trade, and while a definite degree of wear from that term is evident in the ancient flannel, it remains a miracle of condition. It's likely that another home jersey received the bulk of usage, and that this specimen was used sparingly for a reason. Noted jersey authenticator Lou Lampson points out the word "Sunday" embroidered over the "Moore" surname on the swatch at interior collar. It is an oddity he had encountered in other Red Sox jerseys of the same general era. His supposition is that these shirts were saved for Sunday games so that the ballplayers would be wearing their finest, just like churchgoers, when the crowds at the park were largest.

Just above the embroidered swatch is the local "Horace Partridge Co." manufacturer's label. "Red Sox" is applied to the chest in bold red felt, giving way to Moore's number "19" on verso. The socks logo patch is constructed of red and black felt on left sleeve. Check Marc Okkonen's definitive Baseball Uniforms of the 20th Century and you'll find this is a one-year style, certainly one of the only surviving examples.

Only the most inconsequential freckling of rust on the shoulders, likely the result of oxidation of a hanger, is necessary to note in terms of condition flaws, but we do not hesitate to declare that the overall appearance is NRMT. A majestic and tremendously rare Depression-era gem. LOA from Lou Lampson.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
