    Description

1923 Yankee Stadium Grand Opening Official Program. On April 18, 1923, Babe Ruth christened his House with the Bronx baseball palace's first long ball, and a four to one victory over his former club, the Boston Red Sox. "Some ball yard," he told reporters asking for a post-game commentary. While the reproductions of this coveted publication, issued at the time of the 1976 Stadium reopening, are fairly commonly encountered, just a scant few have survived from the original 1923 Grand Opening. This example shows expected wear to the vibrant orange cover (some paper loss, edge wear, rear cover missing), but the interior pages remain in far superior condition, with some light dampstaining all to report. One must forgive these condition issues in light of the program's status as one of the most desirable in the baseball collecting hobby, and bid accordingly. No advanced Yankees collection could be considered complete without one.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
