    Description

1919 "Shoeless Joe" Jackson Original News Photograph by Paul Thompson, PSA/DNA Type 1. It took the greatest scandal in the history of our National Pastime to redefine Joe Jackson. He had been, for the last full decade of the Dead Ball Era, simply the greatest hitter on the planet, a distinction assigned to him by those most qualified to do so, the men who aspired to the title themselves. But where legends like Cobb and Williams turned a scientific eye to the process, deconstructing that fragment of a second that separates success from failure into parts far too small for the mere mortal to see, Jackson's approach was far less cerebral. An illiterate child laborer from the rural South, he was the prototypical "natural," the beneficiary of a gift from God that would be invoiced with a debt of ignominy yet to be forgiven.

Legendary baseball photographer Paul Thompson found Jackson taking practice cuts in a pre-game workout, a confluence of legendary artist and subject that establishes this among the most significant photography offerings within this auction. The image presents nearly flawlessly, with the slightest hints of wear restricted almost entirely to the white borders. Thompson stamp, Baseball Magazine hologram, editorial pencil on verso. Dimensions 8.5x6.5". Note: While the PSA label lists the image as "c. 1917-19," the combination of the pinstripes, absence of the flag patch, and absence of sleeve cuff trim dates it to the infamous 1919 season. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA, Type 1.

Just wanted to let you know how pleased I am regarding the sale of my hockey jersey. You were great to work with, you answered all my phone calls and e-mails in a prompt manner, and you did a great job marketing the jersey.
