1991 Topps Desert Shield Wax Packs (27) with Original Box and Provenance. "I Pledge Allegiance to the Flag".....The opening to the Pledge of Allegiance, which every serviceman and woman must recite as they are being inducted into the United States Armed Forces. In 1991 when our American military was deployed overseas in support of Operation Desert Shield and then Desert Storm, patriotism was at an all time high and Topps produced a set of baseball cards that were to be distributed to our men and women deployed in support of the armed conflict in the Middle East. Approximately 6000 sets were produced and were distributed overseas via wax box. It's been reported that not every box made it into the hands of these brave men and women but, this offering certainly made it into the correct hands.We proudly offer twenty-seven unopened packs from the Desert Shield set along with 3 empty wax packs that once held 15 cards in each pack. Each box contained 36 packs of 15 cards each and 75 raw cards with 6 instant win game cards are included with this offering. The open cards grade overall VG to EX with some lesser and some greater. The provenance included with this offering is incredibly neat as it includes the box that was used to ship these cards from the deployed Staff Sergeant back home to his parents in New York. Also included is a hand written note on the back of an envelope from the soldier to his mom and dad. If that wasn't enough, the empty box is also included in this offering. The box has seen better days but considering the trips around the world it's made, it's not too shabby. The lid has been separated from the box and displays considerate edge and corner wear. A few sticks of gum are included, but, we don't suggest that you pop these in your mouth.
