Description
1991 Topps Desert Shield Baseball Wax Box With 36 Packs. In 1991, Operation Desert Shield saw U.S. military personnel deployed to the Middle East to defend Kuwait following an Iraqi invasion. In an effort to boost morale and bring a sense of home to the troops, Topps produced a special run of their 1991 baseball card release featuring a gold foil Desert Shield logo on the upper right corner of each card. Coinciding with Topps' 40th anniversary, these cards were packaged identically to the standard release and shipped overseas without distinguishing marks-no complete sets were issued, and only about 6,000 cards were reportedly produced, with far fewer believed to have made it back.Presented here is a 1991 Topps Desert Shield wax box containing 36 sealed packs. As verified in the accompanying video, three packs were opened from this box and confirmed to contain cards bearing the Desert Shield emblem, authenticating this as a true Desert Shield box. Due to the extremely limited supply and the uncertain survival rate of these cards, factory-sealed boxes remain among the rarest unopened products from the modern era.
Potential contents include Mint or Gem Mint cards of legendary names such as Ken Griffey Jr., Cal Ripken Jr., Frank Thomas, Nolan Ryan, Greg Maddux, and Chipper Jones' rookie card. The box bottom features the George Brett panel variant, adding to its collector interest. The outer box shows light to moderate wear-impressive given the unique origin and the set's historical context. The box presents with moderate to mild wear throughout.
