1966 Topps Baseball (4th Series) Wax Box.UPDATE: This wax box contains 24 packs.
The PSA website characterizes the 1966 Topps Baseball issue as, "One of the Most Underrated Issues of the Decade." This was the year that the Deep South got into the game as the Milwaukee Braves relocated to Atlanta, while the California Angels and St. Louis Cardinals moved locally into new stadiums. Sandy Koufax closed out his Hall of Fame career with a Cy Young Award, and Ted Williams was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. The offered wax box lay dormant during this historic season, its twenty-four wax packs untouched within.
The experts at Baseball Card Exchange have affirmed that this box remains in sealed, as-issued condition, and contains cards from the important fourth series (284-370), allowing for the possibility that the following keys might reside within: Dodgers Rookies (Don Sutton) #288, Roberto Clemente #300, Frank Robinson #310, Bob Gibson #320, Roger Maris #365.
The twenty-four (24) packs inside each cost a nickel back in the days of the Johnson administration, but inflation has moved that figure just a bit over the course of six decades. Five cards are contained within each pack, so there are 120 virgin cardboard commemoratives in total. But before you give in to the temptation of breaking those ancient seals, we'll point out that only fifty-six packs from the 1966 Topps Baseball issue appear in the PSA population, and just one of them is Series Four.
