Description

A fresh to the hobby find!

1959 Topps Baseball (4th Series) Cello Box with 36 Unopened Packs. It was a year that the Go Go Sox of Chicago broke the Yankee stranglehold on the 1950's American League, that Nellie Fox and Ernie Banks claimed the MVP Awards of the Junior and Senior Circuit respectively, and that Willie McCovey made his Rookie of the Year debut. Six decades later, we offer a nearly pristine time capsule back to that memorable season, a long-forgotten and recently rediscovered cello box that represents one of the hobby's most significant trading card finds of recent years.

This fourth series of the 1959 Topps Baseball issue contained such diamond luminaries as Ernie Banks, Robin Roberts, Al Kaline, and Hoyt Wilhelm. Just two years ago, Heritage auctioned a Gem Mint 10 example of the Banks for nearly $23,000, so those collectors with a gambling spirit may choose to crack the cellophane and give birth to contents that have gestated for over half a century.

The outer box exhibits some mild staining commensurate with its long life, but the contents are unaffected, leaving the interior packs to present in Near Mint to Mint condition. The facing cards follow that trend toward the pristine, strengthening the urge to carefully slice through the cellophane and send these untouched virgins off for professional grading.
