1910's - 1920's George Close Candy (E94) Boxes, Tins, Wrappers and Newspaper Comic (11). For decades the E94 series was simply called the "Grey Back Set" or "Star Baseball Players" referring to a line of copy or the distinct grey ink used to print the backs. Thanks to the rare overprints (a set is available in this auction) we can now credit the George Close Candy Co. of Cambridge, Mass. for their production. Offered is a selection of nine items relating to the long defunct firm. Includes: 1) Folded card calendar from 1913 with Blome's Chocolates ad in EX condition; 2) Close's "1 for 1-Cent" blotter card. 2-9/16" x 4-3/16" (EX/MT); 3) Butter Scotch Caramel 2 x 3" wrapper, folds as issued; 4) Close's Milkamels wrapper, 2-1/4" x 3-1/4" with folds as issued; 5) Blome Chocolates paper bag. Measures 3 x 5-1/4" flat in EX/MT condition; 6) Blome's Chocolate Extra Butter Creams 3-lb. carton. 7-1/2" x 11" x 3-3/4" with some staining but no damage (VG+); 7) Molasses Candy retail carton. Designed to hold twenty-four 5-Cent packages. 5-1/2" x 11-1/4" x 3-3/8" wrapped in cellophane, stained but no major damage (VG); 8) October 5, 1913 Boston Sunday Globe comic page with "Old Opie Dilldock's Stories" comic strip. Paper is brown but not brittle; 9) Nov. 12 1913 letter on company letter head (fold lines); 10) June 28, 1935 letter on company letter head (fold lines); 11) George Blome & Son 1903 ad card (EX).
