Description

1880's Goodwin & Co. "Gypsy Queen" Cigarettes Retail Display Box. Baseball and non-sports collectors alike who are studied in nineteenth century tobacco are all too aware of the rarity of the N175 "Gypsy Queen" baseball cards. It seems like the available population of every 19th Century card promotion will never satisfy demand so most are content with having an actress card or two in their collection. Packaging with the "Gypsy Queen" name and corresponding attractive young woman, who were the face of the brand, are almost impossible to find. Offered is an all-wood 1880's cigarettes box covered from top to bottom, left to right in glorious color graphics of our young queen, resting outdoors, surrounded by various flora and fauna. The 9' x 7-5/8" x 3" box does have some general wear. The top lid is no longer attached, the insides are covered with a blue paper liner. What appears to be a staple is the attachment point where string connecting lid to base kept the lid from going past the upright position. Overall signs of aging in the form of stains, surface wear, tape along one corner, etc. are present. Overall condition is very-good-plus and could maybe benefit from a professional cleaning.
