Description

C. 1907 Detroit Tigers Real Photo Postcard SGC Poor 1. In 1907, the Detroit Tigers won their very first American League pennant before losing to the powerhouse Chicago Cubs in the World Series. The Tigers boasted a very strong lineup that included Hall of Fame batsman Ty Cobb, who would win his first of 12 AL batting titles that season. Besides featuring the 20-year-old Cobb, the Tigers also boasted Hall of Fame slugger "Wahoo Sam" Crawford in the lineup and a very stingy pitching staff that relied upon three different 20-game winners. Offered is a real photo postcard of that Tigers team. Real photo postcards were created on demand in small numbers and, generally, have no manufacturer noted. Manager Hughie Jennings is seated in the front row, holding the team dog, while Cobb is seated just over Jennings' right shoulder, looking stoic and focused. This fine Deadball Era postcard, which includes a handwritten note on the reverse, was postally used and mailed to Niagara Falls in Ontario, Canada. Graded SGC Poor 1.

Guide Value or Estimate: $1,200 - up.
