1972 Topps Carlton Fisk - Red Sox Rookies #79 PSA Gem Mint 10. "If the human body recognized agony and frustration, people would never run marathons, have babies, or play baseball," said catcher Carlton Fisk. It's doubtful that Fisk ever ran a marathon, and it's a sure thing that he never gave birth, but when it came to baseball, Fisk endured plenty of agony and frustration to carve a career that lasted 24 years and took him to the Hall of Fame. Offered is Fisk's 1972 Gem Mint rookie card. Fisk grew up in New Hampshire and got to play with his boyhood favorites, the Boston Red Sox, beginning with a few games in the 1969 season. He was the AL Rookie of the Year in '72, the first unanimous Rookie of the Year selection in history. Carlton suffered several torn knee ligaments in a 1974 home plate collision with Cleveland's Leron Lee, and was told he would never play again, but managed to play 19 more years. Fisk is best known for "waving fair" his famous game-winning home run that hit the left field foul pole in the 12th inning of Game 6 of the 1975 World Series against the Cincinnati Reds at Fenway Park. That foul pole is now named the Fisk Foul Pole. After 11 seasons with Boston, Fisk played 13 seasons with the Chicago White Sox. When he retired, he held the all-time record for homers by a catcher, with 351. Carlton broke the MLB then-record for games caught, then held by Bob Boone, when he caught his 2,226 game on June 22, 1993.

The 1972 Topps set featured a very colorful, almost psychedelic fronts that were reflective of the 1970s era. Fisk shares this card with Mike Garman, who had a 9-year MLB career as a reliever and Cecil Cooper, who was a 5-time All-Star. Here is a chance to have a Gem Mint card of a HOF legend who played the game hard until he was 45 years old. Graded PSA Gem Mint 10.
