1929 King Magazine Babe Ruth/Lou Gehrig #JBR67 SGC EX-NM 6 - Pop One, None Higher. How many cards have Ruth & Gehrig on the same card? On October 9, 1928 the Yankees had just won their second consecutive World Series title beating the St. Louis Cardinals in a 4-game sweep. Just three days later and still in celebration mode Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig appeared in Dexter Park, home to the (semipro) Brooklyn Bushwicks. Here the two baseball legends are in their cowboy best in front of an adoring crowd. Even the car they drove in on was decked out with a massive set of longhorn steer horns. This rare card was issued in August of 1929 as part of a pair of 48-card sets issued 4-card per uncut panel. Aside from athletes, there were movie stars, celebrities, Politicians, events and more. The set was called "Joshiki Hoten Kingu Kado" or King Cards Treasury of Wisdom. The Ruth/Gehrig image is unique to this card and is certainly one of more obscure and fun cards featuring baseball's finest sluggers. Hand cut and graded SGC EX-NM 6. This is the highest graded example of only four found on the SGC pop report.
