Description

1925 Exhibits Lou Gehrig PSA Good 2. For a generation of kids, Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig were baseball heroes. In a family dynamic, Ruth was the fun, single uncle who was the one who let you have candy and ice cream, played "pull my finger," and let you stay up after bed time. He was the fun one. Who was the one who taught you how to ride a bike? Who did you want when you fell off said bike? Who took you fishing? Who taught you how to throw a baseball and helped you with your homework. Dad did. Far less celebrated, but a true hero, none the less. With life being constant change, dad was a constant and a source of security. Gehrig, too, was there, day-after-day, rain or shine, good times and bad. You knew Gehrig was in the line up doing his best. Gehrig is the subconscious father-figure we either remember fondly or the one we wished we had. It is why Gehrig remains so endearing, generation after generation.

His first card appearance from the 1925 Exhibit series is as coveted and any card could ever be. There will never be enough to satisfy demand. It is a post card-sized treasure that collectors find so endearing on many levels. Our offered card has been sitting untouched, not in the attic or basement of the family home, but a closet. It is being sold for the first time in three decades.

Graded PSA Good 2. This card is one of only twenty-eight total graded by PSA! The blank reverse has a very faint surface wrinkle, one you do not see at all on the front, running horizontally at an angle, about one-third of the way down from the top of the card. It is one of those wrinkles you don't automatically seen until turned into the light. There is creasing very close to the bottom right corner, the others show wear one expects from a VG/EX card. The obverse surface has wear that only modestly affects visual enjoyment and, remember, the vertical black lines in the lower left are a part of the printing of the card. You will not find any surface loss or pencil/ink markings. A solid example of one of the hobby's most cherished rookie card debuts.
