    Description

1924 Willard Chocolate Ty Cobb #39 PSA NM 7 - None Higher. In 1924, Canada's Willard's Chocolate produced a set of trading cards featuring fifty-six "Sports Champions." Willard's pooled names of top athletes from many different sports, including tennis legend Bill Tilden, golfer Gene Sarazen and swimmer and surfing pioneer Duke Kahanamoku. The thin paper set would include three baseball players: Eddie Collins, Ty Cobb and Babe Ruth. The delicate paper stock, and staining from the confections with which the cards were originally packaged, has made the top of the PSA population chart a lonely place. This magnificent tribute to the Georgia Peach equals the finest examples known, with no PSA equivalent, the SGC census shows one superior representation. With sharp corners, clean surfaces and bold registration, this is a gorgeous rarity for the advanced Cobb collector. Graded PSA NM 7.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
