1923-1924 Tomas Gutierrez Andy Cooper (Black Back) #76 SGC 20 Fair 1.5. When Andy Cooper was born in 1898, Waco, Texas was a small town of 20,000 people. Dubbed "Lefty" for his durability, often pitching in three games of a five-game series. Cooper is recognized as the best Negro League pitcher in 1923. The 1928 season started with back-to-back wins against the Cleveland Tigers including a 2-hit shutout. His career spanned two decades playing for the Detroit Stars, Kansas City Monarchs and in Cuba during the winter. There are precious few cards on which he makes an appearance. Offered is an extremely rare "Tomas Gutierrez" card from 1923 when Cooper was pitching for Havana. Cooper was finally inducted into the Baseball HoF in 2006. Graded SGC 20 Fair 1.5. The card shows some completely acceptable corner wear, a nicely centered portrait that is affected by print ghosting and some light spider creasing but no heavy creasing which is a rare treat for these fragile cards. Only five have been graded by SGC.
