1921 Holsum Bread Joe Jackson PSA Poor 1 - The Only PSA Graded Example! Despite playing for 13 years prior to his banishment, Joe Jackson has a following matched by few others. His lack of HoF status has meant absolutely nothing the the hoard of fans who feel his punishment did not represent true justice. He was not yet a regular player in 1910 and was, therefore, not included in the tobacco issues of that time. Jackson was banned from baseball following the 1920 season and did not make it into the popular American Caramel issue but did make it into the more obscure issue of the late-1910's and early 1920's. Offered is one such treasure, his extremely rare Holsum Bread card from 1921. We have the Weil Baking Company based in New Orleans to thank for this card which we can safely assume say extremely limited regional distribution. Although the set is dated to 1921 on paper, discoveries have shown the Holsum Bread cards were circulated in 1920 which would explain how a player banned in 1920 would still appear in a promotion from 1921. This portrait of quite possibly the greatest and most natural hitter to ever play in our National Pastime is probably the one image that challenges his Cracker Jack portrait as most popular. That is a bonus considering this is one of the rarest Jackson card collectibles, a card that was unknown for over eight decades.
There is a series of creases which only marginally affect Jackson's portrait. Corners show wear typical for a "VG-EX" card and centering is close to perfect. The back shows the distinctive Holsum Bread ad which is mildly affected by two surface scuffs affecting the "C" in Company and the "S" in Street. Graded PSA Poor 1 but considering so few exist we recommend not waiting for another. This auction features cards with this classic pose from the E135 and Boston Store promotions.
