Description

1917 E135 Collins-McCarthy Harry Heilmann (Blank Back) #71 SGC Fair 1.5. At 200 subjects, the E135 series is among the most comprehensive of its era but is not by any means an easy set to assemble. Heilmann is one of a select group of men to bat .400, a feat he accomplished with a .403 tally in 1923. There wouldn't be another American League hitter to do so until Teddy Ballgame's historic 1941 campaign. The star Detroit Tigers outfielder ranks twelfth on the Major League career charts with a .342 lifetime average, and yet earned his Hall of Fame plaque posthumously, a full twenty years after his last at-bat. Graded SGC Fair 1.5.
