Description

The single-highest graded example in joint population of PSA and SGC!

1917 D350-2 Standard Biscuit Babe Ruth #147 SGC EX-NM 6 -- Finest Known! In a collecting hobby dominated by the traditions of tobacco and bubble gum, the humble "D-Card," nomenclature designating original distribution through the sale of baked goods, stands as a tiny but important footnote. Fewer than twenty-five species exist within the full spectrum of D-Cards, each surviving today in the thinnest populations.

One suspects that the perishable nature of baked goods was the reason that so few bakers threw their caps into the trading card ring--once the bread went stale, the loaf or biscuits were simply discarded (no pun intended), wasting their cardboard commemoratives.

Presented is one of the most significant survivors bearing the D-card DNA, one of only two Standard Biscuit Babe Ruth rookies residing within a SGC slab, and a full four grade levels superior to its lone rival. Both PSA specimens are likewise graded Good 2. We should mention that the full count of all subjects from this issue in both the PSA and SGC populations stands at 122 at the time of this writing. Only five have graded higher than this one.

The aesthetics here are as captivating as the grade would suggest, with no deviation from perfection until we reach the minor wear at the corners. Registration and centering, both notoriously wobbly in trading cards of this advanced age, hit the bullseye here. Surfaces are clean and a healthy coating of gloss glistens on the obverse. It's an absolutely glorious rarity that will confer unbeatable bragging rights upon its new owner when Platinum Night arrives. Graded SGC EX-NM 6.
