    Description

1916 M101-4 Sporting News Joe Jackson #87 SGC 84 NM 7 . Despite playing for 13 years prior to his banishment, Joe Jackson is featured in very few sets. He was not yet a regular player in 1910 and was, therefore, not included in the tobacco issues of that time. Jackson was banned from baseball following the 1920 season and did not make it into the popular American Caramel and related issues of the 1920's. Besides a few strip card issues, there are just not many cards available that feature Jackson with his infamous team, the Chicago White Sox. The Sporting News and associated sets are by far the most popular of all his White Sox cards as they picture the star in a classic Charles Conlon batting pose, which is the same picture that was used for his Cracker Jack card. The offered blank-backed card exhibits some consistent toning, which is common with the issue. It's centering is slightly skewed, but it's still significantly better from this standpoint than the series' usually encountered quality of alignment. All four of the corners are still square and exhibit very light wear at their extreme tips.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
