Description
1916 M101-4 Sporting News Babe Ruth #151 SGC VG/EX 4 - New To The Hobby! This is it! The rookie-year debut of the greatest player in the history of baseball.Ruth can be considered the game's best solely on hitting. Adding his amazing pitching, which alone had him on track to the Hall of Fame, obliterates counter-argument. Ruth's first full year was with the Boston Red Sox in 1915, going 18-8. Then 23-12 with a league-leading ERA of 1.75 in 1916, and 24-13 in 1917. In 1918, he had a 13-7 record with a 2.22 ERA and also started 70 games in the field, batting .300, with a league leading 11 home runs. Then, Ruth, the league home run champ, pitched in the World Series, and extended his scoreless innings streak begun in the 1916 World Series to a then-record 29.2 innings and finished his career World Series pitching at 3-0 with an amazing 0.87 ERA. In 1919, the sensational Ruth also split time: Pitching at 9-5, with a 2.97 ERA, and leading the league in home runs (29), runs (103) and RBI (113).
Ruth, as a Yankee in 1920, became a full-time outfielder (except when he occasionally pitched for fun and gate appeal, and went 5-0). In 1927, he hit his then record 60 season homers, and held, for 39 years, the career home run record of 714. Four World Series championships followed and Ruth joined the Hall of Fame as an inaugural inductee.
From a new to the hobby collection, here's Ruth as a Boston pitcher, still a babe. Lifetime: a 94-46 record and 2.28 ERA. Very clean surfaces. Just corner wear, no wrinkles or creases. Graded SGC VG-EX 4. From a SGC total pop of just fifteen, this is the lone card graded VG/EX. with five higher. It's the game's greatest hitter depicted as a great pitcher - a near-priceless prize.
