    Description

1915 E145-2 Cracker Jack Ed Rousch (Roush) #161 SGC 98 Gem 10 - The Ultimate 1915 Cracker Jack. You could say Ed Rousch was his own worst enemy. He was a "passionate" soul who could throw with both his left and right arm who staged annual salary wars, one holdout caused him to miss the entire 1930 season. For his career, Ed played for almost two decades retiring with a .323 average including 11 straight years of .300+ performances. Earning batting titles in 1917 and 1919, World Series glory was achieved for the Cincinnati Reds but even that would be marred by controversy. Roush played two years for Indianapolis of the newly formed Federal league starting in 1914, the same team he is pictured with on this all but pristine E145-2 Cracker Jack card from 1915. In 1916, Ed was part of what today seems like an almost unimaginable trade that sent three future Hall of Famers-Rousch, Bill McKechnie and the immortal Christy Mathewson--to the Cincinnati Reds for Buck Herzog and Wade Killifer.

As to be expected, this pristine survivor is the only example to be bestowed with a SGC 98 Gem 10 label. For the entire series, SGC has now graded 4,891 cards and this is one of only three cards (that's just .0006%) at the "Gem" plateau. The condition is nothing short of miraculous for a 95-year old, fragile 2-1/4 x 3" piece of paper. If condition isn't enough to sway a decision, the added benefit of Rousch is a unique subject within the 1915 series. The borders are bright; the horizontal centering is barely 1/32" from the utmost in precision. Each corner tip ends as a razor sharp point. The surfaces are free of any stains, scuffing, any hint of handling for that matter. The colors are vibrant and the print registration is unimprovable. This card makes for stunning display, made all the more impressively surrounded by the deep black insert of the SGC holder and bragging rights where to paraphrase an old saying, a card is worth a thousand words.
