Description
1915 E145-2 Cracker Jack Christy Mathewson #88 SGC 96 Mint 9 - Pop two, None Higher! A dream will come true for one sophisticated collector here, as Heritage presents one of the most remarkable E145-2 Cracker Jack cards to be placed upon the auction block. Those with even a passing knowledge of the baseball collectibles can appreciate the scarcity and desirability of any Mint condition Mathewson baseball card. Mathewson's illustrious career was largely cemented in history by the time this card came to market. His career earned Matty a well justified place in Cooperstown's inaugural class of five legends of the game. A hero off the field as well, Christy's death by pneumonia in 1925 was the delayed result of a poisonous gas attack occurring during his service in World War I . Issued only a year shy of his retirement from professional baseball, the multi-colored portrait is of a very young Mathewson, printed with an outstanding degree of precision. This spectacular example, is well centered and exhibits four sharp corners. Mint Condition.Auction Info
