1915 Cracker Jack Nap Lajoie #66 PSA Mint 9 - None Higher.
Napoleon Lajoie is a beacon for those striving for the American
dream. He was born to French Canadian parents who immigrated to the
United States. Like his contemporary Shoeless Joe Jackson, Lajoie
was a grade school dropout who worked in a textile mill as a boy
and quickly showed talent in industrial league play. Although named
for the famous French conqueror, he picked up the name "Larry" by a
teammate who struggled with the pronunciation of his surname. As
word of his slugging prowess spread, Lajoie rose through the
semi-professional ranks to the Class B New England League Fall
River Indians, and then almost immediately to the Majors for six
years in Philadelphia with the Phillies and Athletics. It is his
years in Cleveland for which he is best remembered, his popularity
so great that the team was dubbed the "Naps" in his honor. Lajoie
managed briefly following his retirement as a player after 21 years
in 1916. His Cracker Jack card is a favorite among Lajoie fans as
it is one of the final cards issued during his career.Graded PSA Mint 9. One of six in MINT. None have rated higher. Needless to say, this is one of the finest Lajoie cards from the 1915 Cracker Jack series submitted to PSA. As such, this relic could easily be considered one of the more significant representatives of the Early Candy/Caramel Era that exists, a one-way ticket to the pinnacle of the hobby hierarchy for its new owner. Colors, corners, surfaces and edges all project an elevated and consistent level of physical and visual quality. This is an extra special lot for Heritage as it is the first time we have the opportunity to offer this extreme condition rarity to our bidders. Our research data shows us another Mint Lajoie has not been brought to public auction since 2008. However, we have located one for our Heritage bidding clientele, allowing one lucky customer to switch teams to the "haves" from the "have nots."
