Description

1915 Cracker Jack Chief Bender #19 PSA NM-MT 8 - Only Two Higher. The "Chief" Bender story is really one of the more under appreciated in baseball lore. Somehow this great talent, easily one of the finest pitchers of the Dead Ball era, has flown under the radar while others of lesser talent have garnered more attention. From 1910 through 1914, Bender averaged 18 wins and 6 losses (.746 W-L %), a 2.15 ERA and gave up ten home runs - in total over the five year period. He was a post-season hero as well. He appeared in five world series. He went 6-4 for the ten games he started. Needing no help on the mound, he completed nine of the ten games including three complete games in 1911.

Offered is his card from the 1915 Cracker Jack series during his first and only year with the Baltimore Terrapins. Graded PSA NM-MT 8. One of seventeen in NM-MT. Only two have rated higher. Those number have not changed in well over two years.
