1914 Cracker Jack Honus Wagner #68 PSA EX-MT 6 - Pop Three, None Higher. For the many hobbyists focusing their attention to candy, this is a most coveted piece. In 1914, no offer for a fresh set of cards to arrive in the mail was available. No mailmen had an entourage of baseball card hungry youngsters clamoring for that package with the "Cracker Jack" return address. This offer alone seems to have allowed a small percentage of these thin paper collectibles to survive in this close to flawless state for future generations to gaze in bewilderment at what it must have been like to experience these now treasured mementos as they just rolled off the presses. Amazingly enough, this card begins to approach that level and it features one of the sports true legends - Honus "Hans" Wagner. Ranking among the great names like Jackson, Johnson and Cobb in status within this 144-card issue, the "Old Dutchman" is shown in an insightful portrait befitting the first shortstop to enter the Baseball Hall of Fame. Colors are rich and supple. Corners show some wear as they surround a close to precisely centered portrait. Circulation exposed these cards to the sticky caramel treat but thankfully this card only shows a wholly acceptable and minimal amount of stains. Graded PSA EX-MT 6, this is one of a trio of survivors in EX-MT, none are rated any higher on the PSA census.Auction Info
