Description

1914 Cracker Jack Del Pratt #93 PSA VG-EX 4 - Only One Higher! Secretively nestled among the 144 subjects that comprise the 1914 Cracker Jack series are names that find their way into Cooperstown with price tags to reflect their status. Valued among baseball's elite though, is Del Pratt on card #93. Create a list of "Fewest Submissions" and one notices that the second half of the series seems to be encountered less often, some significantly so, than the first half of the set. Names on that list include the famous, like HoF pitching legend Christy Mathewson, and the famously rare, like Del Pratt. Interestingly enough, both attended college at a time when only a small percentage of baseball players had the means to pursue higher education.

Exactly why he is so rare has yet to be answered. Oddly, both men appear "in action" in the 1914 edition and as close-up portraits in the 1915 version. It certainly couldn't have anything to do with their playing careers. Pratt played for 13 seasons and amassed 1,996 hits with a lifetime .292 batting average. Whatever the answer may be, we do know this card is one of biggest challenges facing the hobbyist attempting to complete a 1914 E145-1 set.

Graded PSA VG-EX 4. One of three examples graded VG-EX with just one graded higher from a total PSA population that just reached twenty! Staining is always an issue with cards from this series and thankfully our offered card has only very modest amounts leaving pleasant eye appeal. The corners are all gently rounded, all in line with this grade level, there are no wrinkles or creases. The detailed illustration is very strong thanks to hues that have remained rich and saturated after over a century. This is a chance to get a step closer to completing your '14 set that most collectors will not get to enjoy.
