    Description
1914 Boston Garter Johnny Evers SGC Authentic - The Only Graded Example! Anytime one of the extremely rare 1914 Boston Garter cards is presented for auction it is an event you don't forget, if you've been in the hobby long enough. The highly coveted promotion offers only a dozen subjects but a complete is virtually impossible. Most of the names would again share another connection as members of Baseball's Hall of Fame. Much like the shiny inserts of today, ad copy tells us only one card was placed inside each box of 12 garters and were probably given to a store's best customer(s). HoFer Johnny Evers is a perfect example that symbolizes just how rare these cards truly are. This is the only 1914 Boston Garter card of Evers graded by SGC. No like example has been recorded by PSA. Our database of previous auction sales shows us the last time this card was presented at public auction was in 2008! The beauty of these cards makes them treasured entries where once in private hands they tend to stay in those hands for the foreseeable future.
Encapsulated SGC Authentic. Your first impression is one of pleasant surprise as it presents as a mid-grade card with no major condition aliments. The "most" one sees is some edge chipping along the bottom. The "Authentic" assessment is due to some small to modest professional restoration that includes a mall area of loss that has been filled in with the obverse painted in. This is into the left edge just above his knee level; This conservation process is seen twice in the lower left border on a much smaller sampling and an approx. 1" surface scratch that has been colored in that runs from the center in the garter running up and to the left ending right where his pants and socks meet. While some may bemoan these instances of professional conservation we simply remind any interested party that this card has not been made available in more than a decade!
