This collection, originating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, began its journey with J. Richard "Dick" Ramsburg, an ardent collector and esteemed athlete. It was lovingly passed down through generations, from Dick to his daughter Anne Ramsburg Jones, and eventually to her children, Susan, Dick, and Steve. This treasure trove not only survived the Great Depression and two World Wars but also embodies the enduring spirit of a family's passion for collecting.
The collection’s survival is a story of resilience and sentiment. At a critical juncture, when Anne considered discarding these cherished items, a note from her father and the pleas of her sons swayed her decision, preserving the collection for future generations. This decision encapsulated the essence of the collection – more than mere cards, they are a symbol of familial love and dedication. The collection, having overcome numerous challenges, remains a testament to the family's commitment to preserving their heritage.
The Ramsburg Collection is renowned for its centerpiece, the T206 series, famously known as "The Monster." This impressive assemblage, comprising approximately 3,300 cards features over 500 cards of Hall of Famers, highlighting the likes of Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, Christy Mathewson, and Cy Young. However, the collection's significance extends beyond the T206 series, encompassing a variety of baseball and non-sports cards, including 1911 T205 Gold Borders and 1912 T207 Brown Background cards along with the 1887 N28 Allen & Ginter set, each with its unique historical and artistic value.
Now, as this extraordinary collection finds its way to Heritage Auctions, beginning with our February Platinum event in 2024, it offers a unique opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts to own a piece of history. The Ramsburg Collection, meticulously curated and passed down over generations, is not just a compilation of trading cards; it is a legacy of a family's devotion to the art of collecting. We invite you to become a part of this remarkable story, as pieces of this collection embark on their next journey with new custodians.
