    Population three, none superior!

1911 T205 Piedmont Gold Border Ty Cobb PSA NM-MT 8. Feared by most, but respected by all, Tyrus Raymond Cobb was the Machiavellian ideal of the early game, forging his Cooperstown bronze in the fires of natural ability and gritted-teeth determination. Though Cobb's staggering career hits tally of 4,191 was ultimately eclipsed, many batting records remain in the Georgia Peach's sole possession to this day, most notably the .366 career batting average.

The season this stunningly well-preserved commemorative was hatched from a pack of Piedmont cigarettes, the Georgia Peach produced what may have been the most dominant season ever delivered to Major League Baseball, topping the Junior Circuit in virtually every offensive category: a career-high .419 average, 147 runs scored, 248 hits, forty-seven doubles, twenty-four triples, 127 runs batted in and eighty-three base thefts. He'd receive every first ballot for American League MVP voting.

How fitting that the issue's claim to fame is a border of gold, a trait that is both its namesake and its Achilles heel. Even more so than the average "full bleed" entries in The Standard Catalog, the golden borders of the T205 issue are magnets for wear, knocking all but the most improbably fortunate from the upper reaches of the PSA population ladder.

The lightest touch at the third base edge of the offered specimen is the sole factor that denies singular supremacy in those rankings, leaving it instead as a member of an unvanquished trio. The combination of subject, design and condition establish this as one of the most compelling representations from the full taxonomy of cards filed under "T." It is a trading card of monumental rarity and significance.
