1911 M110 Sport Life Cabinets Honus Wagner PSA VG-EX 4. "There ain't much to being a ballplayer, if you're a ballplayer," philosophized Honus Wagner. Suffice it to say, Wagner was a ballplayer. Wagner broke into the Majors with National League Louisville. After four years, he moved to the Pittsburgh Pirates for the remaining 17 years of his career. Wagner played every position save catcher. "He was the nearest thing to a perfect player no matter where his manager chose to play him," said John McGraw about him. Wagner was 5'11", 200 lbs., a big player for his time. Wagner never looked graceful, as a batter, fielder, or runner, yet he was superb at all three. Known as "The Flying Dutchman," he didn't look fast, but he was, stealing 723 bases. At bat, he placed his hands apart on the bat, especially to hit to right, and would slide his hands together to pull. He led the National League in batting eight times, tied with Tony Gwyn for the most NL crowns ever. In 1903, Pittsburgh faced the Boston Americans in the first modern World Series. Called "yellow" by the Boston rooters, Wagner hit only .222 as the Pirates lost the Series. In 1909, Wagner's other World Series, he redeemed himself against Ty Cobb's Detroit Tigers, as Wagner hit .333 with the Pirates taking the crown. Wagner hit .328 lifetime and was one of only five inaugural players selected for the Hall of Fame.Graded PSA VG-EX 4. The card features the man many have called the greatest shortstop ever in a classic batting pose. The 1911 Sporting Life Cabinets set is extremely scarce. Only six players, each great, were included. Our offered card stands alone in VG-EX and has only two PSA graded higher, none higher than a 5. Obtaining a rare Wagner card is a coup that portends long term value.
