1911 E94 Close Candy "Old" Cy Young (Olive) PSA NM 7 - Pop Two, None Higher. In 1951, Cy Young's public lamentations of pitcher coddling were undoubtedly heartfelt, he must have realized on some level that the movement toward decreasing workloads had cemented his legacy, and ensured that his career record of 511 Major League victories would endure eternally. Young's career victories record is widely, and properly, considered the most untouchable in American sport. Young was sitting at an even 450 career victories at the start of the 1908 season, his nineteenth in the Majors and his final term of service was to the Boston Red Sox. Young became the face of the new American League's Boston franchise upon its founding, winning over forty percent of the Red Sox' games for its 1901 debut season and earning the AL Triple Crown with top marks in victories, strikeouts and ERA. In 1903 the "Canton Cyclone" would throw the first pitch of World Series competition, notching two of the five wins required in claiming the first Fall Classic title. His final twenty victory season as the ace of the 1908 Boston Red Sox was at the ripe old age of forty-one. He pitched the first perfect game of the 20th century (and the American League) in 1904. Young's perfect game was part of his major league record for consecutive scoreless innings pitched and the most consecutive no-hit innings, a mark that still stands at 25.1 innings, or 76 batters but extended to 45 shutout innings. He is credited with five 30+ win seasons and fifteen 20+ win seasons. He holds the records for most career innings pitched with 7,356, games started with 815 and complete games with 749. He ranks fourth all-time with 76 career shutouts. Is it any wonder there is an award of excellence named after him?

Graded PSA NM 7. One of a total of only nineteen cards reviewed by PSA. There is one other recorded in "NM" and none higher. Issued near the end of his legendary career in 1911, this Close Candy Co. E94 of the great Cy Young is also one his more difficult cards to acquire. The card is in remarkable condition showing just very mild corner tip wear and a consistent bright white border that surrounds a lush "Olive" background. There is going to be some spirited bidding on this card.
