1910 T210 Old Mill Series 8 Joe Jackson PSA Good 2. An unassuming portrait of a southern minor leaguer would earn peerless significance over the decade that would follow, carrying its subject to the height of achievement and celebrity before dropping him into the abyss of ignominy. With coat askew and a posture of apparent indifference to the camera, the young New Orleans player depicted on the face of this red-bordered rarity hardly seems poised to embark on a history-making career. His attire and his bearing cause the observer to wonder if the slender Southern Leaguer was, indeed, "Shoeless" at the time of this image's capture!Graded PSA Good 2, this card is one of three rated at this grade level by PSA with just one higher. There are only eight noted on the PSA census including two with qualified assessments. While condition seems almost inconsequential, we note corner wear, wrinkling at one corner and a light crease, both visible on the reverse and moisture exposure resulting in a mild darkening of portions of the obverse. In a classic case of appearances having the capacity to deceive, however, this much-coveted collectible merits a recounting of its points of unsurpassed significance.
The undisputed key element in a regionally distributed and exhaustive, 640-card set of minor league cards, this T210 Old Mill Cigarettes insert is woefully scarce by any definition. (T210's, owing to their specialized areas of appeal at the time of issue, are seen much less often than cards from the productions that involved established Major Leaguers.) Like Jackson himself, this trading card is the ultimate diamond in the rough.
