Description

A contemporary of his legendary T206!

1910 E90-2 American Caramel Honus Wagner SGC Good 2. Hall of Famer Honus Wagner was one of the steadiest hitters in Major League history. Playing exclusively for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1900 to 1917, he won eight National League batting titles and finished his prolific career with a lifetime batting average of .328. Despite his best efforts at the plate and his dependable glove at shortstop, Wagner's Pirates claimed only one World Series title during his tenure in the Steel City. But it was most certainly a memorable championship, as it came against Ty Cobb's formidable Detroit Tigers squad in 1909, as the Bucs prevailed in a classic showdown, four games to three.

The second of the three "E90" American Caramel promotions circulated in 1910 also showcases the 1909 World Champion Pittsburgh Pirates. Naturally, the key card in the release belongs to baseball's premier shortstop, the "Flying Dutchman" himself, Wagner. The familiar portrait is immediately recognized as being inspired by the work of renowned sports photographer Carl Horner. This same portrait is the inspiration behind the hobby's coveted "Holy Grail" T206 card of Wagner. The offered example is found in Good condition and displays well with robust color and good centering, but does reveal softened corners and some surface wear to the bottom left corner, including a crease. Graded SGC Good 2.
