Description

Population two, none higher!

1909 T204 Ramly Chief Bender PSA NM-MT 8. Born in Crow Wing County, Minnesota to a German father and part-Chippewa mother, young Charles Bender rose up through the famous Carlisle Indian School to become one of the top aces of the Dead Ball Era. During the era of Connie Mack's fabled $100,000 Infield, Bender was a masterful craftsman at its center, recording four sub-2.00 ERA seasons and three World Championships. Ty Cobb called him the most intelligent pitcher he ever faced.

Despite his 1953 Hall of Fame induction, Bender has never gotten his rightful due in baseball history, and we aim to do our part in celebrating his massive talent with this offering, one of only two Ramly representations to reach the top of PSA's population rankings. The delicate scroll work and beloved gold-metallic ink provide elegance to this rare and coveted issue, while sharp corners and effective centering assure that none of the beauty is lost. An extraordinary relic commemorating one of the great gentlemen of the Dead Ball Era game.
