1909 E92 Croft's Candy Ty Cobb PSA EX-MT 6 - Pop One, Highest PSA Grade! Ty Cobb once said "A ball bat is a wondrous weapon," and arguably none in the sport's history have been as proficient in its use. Though Pete Rose famously knocked the Peach from his perch in 1985, it's only fair to report that Charlie Hustle recorded 14,053 at bats compared to Cobb's 11,434. Had the Hall of Fame's first inductee kept his average pace through another 2,600 at bats to match Rose's chances, he'd be the sole member of the 5,000 Hit Club. Cobb remains the career leader with a .366 batting average, a record as safe as any in American sport. The great batsmen rests on his "wondrous weapon" with a sly gaze possibly toward a pitcher who may not know what is coming at him. Add in a glorious yellow/orange sky backdrop and one gets an iconic depiction of Cobb from the early candy/caramel card era.

Offered is a scarce E92 Croft's Candy (Black Back) card which is one of his prized card entries but aren't they all? The E92 edition is a series featuring four different brands. There are almost 6x as many cards (1,500+) graded "Dockman & Sons" entries as there are "Croft's Candy" cards (255) on the PSA census. Each brand has just one graded Mint 9 and those are the only E92 cards known. There are none recorded Mint by SGC.

Graded PSA EX-MT 6. Eye appeal easily equals the technical grade. Very pleasing colors and an extremely faint Croft's Candy ad ghosting give the classic image of Cobb, leaning on the lumber that made him a legend, the perfect sense of authenticity. Total population is just eight. This is the highest graded example.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
