Description
1909 E90-1 American Caramel Joe Jackson PSA VG+ 3.5. We are proud to offer the true rookie card of the infamous slugger. While his exploits with the Cleveland Indians and Chicago White Sox are well-known, few realize that Jackson actually got his start in the big leagues with Connie Mack's Philadelphia A's in 1908. It is astounding that the American Caramel Company included Jackson in their 120 card issue as the much larger tobacco issues of the same years did not feature the young slugger. Jackson only played in 5 games each year before being sent to Cleveland for the 1910 season. This is one of the most highly prized cards in our hobby. Not only are E90-1 American Caramel cards much more difficult to find than their tobacco counterparts, but Jackson is a particularly difficult card within the set, especially in collectible condition. Like most caramel cards, this one is composed of fragile stock that would have been next-to-impossible to preserve under anything less than optimal conditions. A glance at PSA's Population Report proves that point. Of the 49 examples that have passed through the grading room at PSA, only 9 that have graded higher than the offered example and this is the only one to achieve the grade of VG+ 3.5. This is a relatively strong example for this card with strong centering, bold colors, and limited corner wear for the grade. The offered piece crease free and holds up admirably well among its excruciatingly limited demographic.View Certification and Population Details from PSA
