1909-11 T206 Sweet Caporal 150/25 Ty Cobb (Portrait-Green) SGC EX 5. Ty Cobb's portrait from the T206 series has become so much more than a depiction of a man. The formal portrait has reached "icon" status and has been a driving force in the vintage card market for the longest time but never more so than in the last five years. With a lean toward the personality of the man himself - a fiery debate can be had to which is the more desirable - the "Red Portrait" or the more scarce "Green Portrait" variety which we are offering here. From the earlier days of production we present an example with a "Sweet Caporal - 150 Subjects" ad and factory 25caption.

This one grabs your attention thanks to a vibrant and blemish-free frame that very consistently surrounds a bold portrait that presents a challenge should one hope to improve upon the deeply saturated hues and precise print registration. The back is clean save for a lone stock imperfection in the left border. Gentle wear affecting portions of the reverse surface accounts for the vast majority of the points passed by SGC. Graded SGC EX 5. This is a very strong mid-grade example with a virtually unimprovable portrait, easily exceeding its technical grade in visual strength. Considering the prices now being achieved by cards with higher technical grades, this card certainly must be considered a wise investment as it can stand toe-to-toe on visual appeal.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
