Description

1909-11 T206 Polar Bear Bill O'Hara (St. Louis) PSA NM 7 - Pop Two, None Higher.

Bill O'Hara made just 124 Major League appearances during his Major League career, apparently becoming homesick for his native Toronto early in the 1910 season and abandoning the St. Louis Cardinals after only nine games. He'd join the Toronto Maple Leafs of the Eastern League upon his return home but he'd never again appear upon a trading card, his departure ending production within the T206 issue.

So while there remains a fairly substantial population of T206 cards commemorating O'Hara's 1909 service to the New York Giants, the census relating to his brief Cardinals tenure is smaller by more than half. Adding to its scarcity is the fact this card is only available with the "Polar Bear" brand reverse.

Graded PSA NM 7. When taking condition into consideration, the offered representation rates among the toughest T206's of them all, one of just two specimens in NM with none superior. Bold colors, crisp registration and a veritable absence of wear are the keys to success here, and we suspect that a slight nudge to the centering could have been enough to carry this example to solo status atop the ratings. This is the breed of obscure yet essential rarity that separates the serious collectors from the masters of the craft.
