Description

1909-11 T206 Piedmont Sherry Magee "Magie" Error SGC Authentic - The Most Famous Hobby Typo! Severely abridged print runs can be caused by force, like Honus Wagner personally putting a stop to his own appearance or by a simple mistake. For one of the most famous error cards in the hobby, one can almost hear the frustrated pressman screaming, "He spells it how?" and the ear-bending screech as the massive multi-color press comes to a halt. Sherry Magee was a solid player for the Phillies who amassed over 2,000 hits and almost 1,200 RBIs during his career but the misspelling of his name has made him a "Hall of Famer" in the card collecting hobby. The "Magie" typo was caught and corrected very early in the process leaving even the most advanced collections of T206s cards short of this coveted mishap. This example has been encapsulated SGC Authentic due to being trimmed with a horizontal measurement just shy of the intended 1-7/16." A solid representation, the obverse is a striking display of color and surface quality. A pair of creases are very hard to detect, slight edge chipping in the lower left is present but seen on closer inspection. The reverse shows some surface wear including a few small spots of loss and soiling. This is an attractive card that represents a huge step toward elevating your T206 collection to a level of completion only a small percentage of hobbyists ever experience.
