The Finest T206 Clark Griffith "Batting" of Any Brand In the Hobby!

1909-11 T206 Piedmont 350 Clark Griffith (Batting) PSA Mint 9 - Pop One, None Higher! Clark Griffith, the "Old Fox," is another Hall of Fame member that has largely gone under appreciated. His career as a pitcher spanned 20 seasons from 1891 to 1914. His years as a manager for the Highlanders, Reds and Senators extended that career to 1920. Clarke appeared in 453 games. A workhorse by any means, he completed 337 of those games and won 20+ seven seasons between 1894 and 1901. Griffith mortgaged his ranch to become owner of the Senators, a title he kept until his death in 1955. He is known as much for his guile as his skills. He ran a tight ship but had an eye for talent. He was instrumental in bringing HoFers Stanley Harris and Joe Cronin to the Senators.

His legacy includes close relationships with Presidents of the United States. It was Griffith who petitioned Woodrow Wilson to keep baseball going during World War I. He was victorious in keeping baseball alive during World War II. The tradition of the President throwing out the ceremonial first pitch on the first Opening Day game was started by Griffith with William Howard Taft getting the first honors. There is a collection of presidential first pitches photographs in the Baseball Hall of Fame collection thanks to a donation by Griffith.

The T206 edition includes two cards featuring Griffith. This set offers the undisputed champion of both! Graded PSA Mint 9. This sharp example of Clark Griffith's "Batting" variation displays "Piedmont - 350 Subjects" advertising on the reverse with a factory 25 caption. Deep, saturated hues of his dark Reds jersey against the glowing yellows, oranges and greens are gift us with an outstanding illustration. The very clean and bright frame only adds to the allure. This card is not just the "Pop One with None Higher!" title-holder for the Piedmont brand, accounting for all brands - one finds not a single example equaling or besting our offered example.
